Finland is one of Europe's most enthusiastic demolishers, bulldozing buildings that are merely 50 years old after pouring energy and materials into their construction that cannot afford to be wasted.

The biggest obstacle in keeping buildings standing may just be a lack of imagination. It takes creativity and reflection to retrofit, repurpose and fix, but this is exactly the type of thinking we need.
